Climbing lessons at SaltyWay offer more than just top-rope climbing. Whether in Sintra’s shaded forests, beautiful seaside climbing spots (watch out for dolphins!), or nearby mountains, you can climb regardless of your experience level. Routes ranging from 4a to 7a+ are right next to each other.
If you book a climbing lesson with us, simply meet us at the spot. You don’t have to worry about anything – we provide you with high-quality equipment. Our climbing courses provide an excellent opportunity for first-time climbers on natural rocks or new challenges for advanced climber. We always try to choose the climbing spot with the best conditions for you, so we deliberately keep the daily schedule a bit flexible and adjust it accordingly. This way, the half-day of practice and theory can take place in the morning or afternoon.
In the Lisbon region, we have different types of rocks, mainly granite, sinter, and limestone. Our experienced and highly qualified guides know the area like the back of their hands and know exactly where you’ll have the most fun at each spot. The climbing theory covers the following topics: safety in climbing, communication & belaying, climbing & rope techniques, climbing vocabulary, equipment, and lead climbing.
The area around Sintra is a truly special and unique place for climbing. Explore diverse climbing spots in Portugal, offering various rock types and difficulty levels amidst beautiful mountains or by the turquoise sea. Regardless of your experience, there’s something for everyone.
One spot that particularly captivates us is the Guia climbing spot, the birthplace of sport climbing in Portugal. The 15to 20-meter-high overhanging limestone cliffs offer 50 or more routes ranging from 4a (easy) to 7a+ (very difficult). You’ll be climbing just a few meters away from the sparkling blue sea of Cascais Bay. It’s almost impossible to resist taking a plunge into the blue sea at the end of the day. Other spots we love and frequent in the Sintra forest include Castelo-dos-Mouros and Pedra Amarela.
The West Coast of Portugal not only offers dreamy beaches but also serves as a real bouldering oasis with impressive granite boulders in picturesque forests. Our bouldering guides will take you to the spots in the magical Serra de Sintra that best suits your level. It’s wonderfully shady and cool here even in summer. Regardless of your current bouldering level, we’ll help you improve it and show you new problems. Our bouldering lessons in Portugal are half-day sessions held in a personal atmosphere in small groups.
Especially the enchanting Peninha forest with its majestic moss-covered granite blocks, providing plenty of boulders ranging from 4a (easy) to 8a (difficult). Peninha is also a great place for a bit of slacklining or a relaxed picnic. And here’s a secret tip: if you’re in the area during sunset, visit the nearby Peninha Monastery for a breathtaking panoramic sunset.
Bouldering mats (crash pads) and a guidebook with the best bouldering spots in the area are available at the SaltyWay house.
