Surf lessons at SaltyWay

We place a strong emphasis on providing high-quality surf lessons. Each surf session lasts approximately 4 hours and you surf in a small group of max. 5 surfers per surf guide. The lessons include both, time in the water and theory. We provide a surfboard and a warm wetsuit for you.

Our experienced and well-educated surf instructors tailor the sessions to your individual surf level, guiding you through the initial steps in the water or helping you improve your surfing skills if you’re more advanced. Regardless of your level, we’ll find the perfect wave for you!

Because of the changing sea-conditions we don’t have fixed surf times or beaches. The SaltyWay surf school is mobile and is mainly located at Praia Grande, Sintra. If the waves are too big here, we meet at Carcavelos Beach, between Lisbon and Cascais. We share all our knowledge with you, adhering to the motto: no pressure. Kids can enjoy playing with the waves and experimenting with the various surf crafts we offer.

Important to know: If you’re in the surf camp for a week or book a surf course for a week, a video analysis is also included. We firmly believe that video recordings are a crucial tool for your surf progress. At times, we also use skateboards to help illustrate specific movements.

Our Surfspots

Praia Grande

Praia Grande is a surf spot with a sandy beach that stretches for more than a kilometer. The beach particularly shines in the summer, producing fun lefts and rights on various sandbanks along the shores. It is the ideal surf spot for both beginners and advanced surfers to learn and enjoy surfing. Praia Grande also offers many great cafes and restaurants for relaxation. It’s perfect for unwinding with a coffee, enjoying a sandwich, and watching the action in the water.

Carcavelos

This surf spot is the city beach of Lisbon and is considered the birthplace of surfing in Portugal. It is also famous for its well-preserved 16th-century military fortress, which solemnly overlooks the southern end of the beach. This kilometer-long sandy beach offers excellent breaking, impressive, and barrel-throwing waves depending on conditions and regardless of the tide. Carcavelos is a good option when the wind is from the north, and the waves on the west coast are too big. If conditions are right, this beach is sure to provide fun, regardless of your surfing level. Carcavelos, with its lively beach life throughout the year, is worth a visit: there are many nice cafes, surf shops, a playground, sun loungers, and a beach volleyball field.
